Girls New Christmas Dresses

I just realized I only posted these photos on Facebook, so I thought I’d post them here too.  I just finished making the girls’ Christmas dresses.  It was very challenging working with that many layers of fabric and then learning how to install invisible zippers, but they turned out amazing!  Then I had to make them matching purses to go with the dresses since I had some extra fabric.  And of COURSE, inside the purses are little matching scrappy bears.

Bragging about my little Anna

I just have to brag A LITTLE sometimes!  :)  This is what Anna read this morning in about 5 minutes from her homeschool book.  I’m so proud of her!

Hunting for deer

An old man got his gun.  He said, “I will go hunting for deer.”  The girl said, “You can not see, so you can not hunt for deer.”  He said, “I will hunt for deer.”

Then a deer came to the man and said, “Are you hunting for deer?”  The old man said, “Have you seen a deer?”  The deer said, “I am a deer.”

The old man said, “I can not see you, so I will not take a shot at you.  We will go for a walk.”  So the old man and the deer went to the old man’s home.

The End.

Lindsey’s Dinner

As part of our home school program, Lindsey has been reading through cookbooks each night and ear-marking recipes that look tasty. Every Thursday will be her turn to make dinner – pretty much all by herself. I did saute the meatballs though – they were falling apart (a bit too much flat parsley) and it was really hard to turn them without crumbling. Although she has cut vegetables before using my big knives, this was her first time cutting a slippery onion (those can be tricky!) and handling raw meat. No worries, I was INCHES away the whole time. *wink*  She also wrote out the grocery list and took the lead on our shopping trip the other day.

This week she chose “Italian Meatballs with Pasta.” We used organic brown rice pasta (in fun little pasta shapes), free range ground beef and pork and mostly organic ingredients for the rest. At the last minute, I suggested throwing in some kalamata olives since I had some in the fridge. Mmmm!!!!! The dinner was sooo yummy!

Could she have picked a HARDER RECIPE???? She cut vegetables, pressed garlic, mushed the meatball goo and then formed balls, measured and poured liquids, boiled pasta, etc. She did such a great job! It took us an HOUR to do the entire dinner, but it was SO WORTH THE WAIT!

The cutest part??? I was sipping on a glass of red wine (used in the recipe too) while she cooked… So she poured herself a wine glass of buttermilk!?!? to be just like Mommy. :) See it sitting there by the fridge?

*sigh* I know, just a butt shot (thanks Todd)… BUT… These are the new Tencel khaki pants I made for myself (below). Very cool fabric! Tencel is wood pulp fiber and it’s stronger than cotton, but has a really soft drape – drape and feel is similar to a cotton-ish-silk. They do wrinkle, but as soon as you stand up, the wrinkles just fall out.

Lindsey played waitress too, which was really cute. The girls absolutely DEVOURED their dinner and then Lindsey brought Evelyn (our neighbor) some of the leftovers.
