Our school year has started off wonderful this year. We’ve pretty much turned our dining room into the school room – it’s nice because we can keep all of the school supplies and workbooks inside the hutch when we’re done.
Lindsey is flying through the first semester of 2nd Grade Math – LOVE LOVE LOVE our Math curriculum! Todd and I found some fun activity workbooks (that have sections for every subject) that they are really enjoying. Lindsey is working on the 2nd grade one and it’s definitely challenging. She just finished the spelling section and is moving on to the Language Arts section today. She is also perfecting her cursive handwriting this year with a $1 cursive dry-erase place mat I found in the dollar isle at Target! Gotta love that! Piano Lessons are going well too – Lindsey practices almost every day as soon as she’s finished with her paperwork/workbooks. We’ve been trying to fit in a typing tutorial, but that hasn’t been as consistent! German is going well – Lindsey LOVES being the Teacher’s Assistant on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I spoke with the owner last week and she said Lindsey speaks 100% German and she is thrilled with the arrangement.
Anna is half-way through the 2nd quarter of Kindergarten Math and loving it! The Singapore Math series teaches math in such an interesting way – certainly not how I learned it – and so far both girls LOVE math. They beg to do it first! Anna’s handwriting is really coming along this year too. I can actually READ her answers in the math and activity workbooks (doing the Kindergarten one) now! :) Hehehehehe! Speaking of reading… *drumroll* Anna is almost done with her reading book. She is flying through the lessons every day, finishing each one in about 15 minutes. CHEERFULLY! She’s been reading words/sentences/stories for over a year now, but it just wasn’t CLICKING. Just because she could read, didn’t mean she wanted to. :) We have 8 lessons left and she’s begging to do FOUR A DAY so she can finish the book before Daddy gets home from India. This was her lesson from yesterday. She giggled all the way through this story – took her about 15 minutes.
The Old Man Did Not Hear Well – Part 1
An old man lived with a little girl. The old man did not hear well. The little girl said to that man, “I will see you soon.”
The man did not hear her. He said, “No, I do not see the moon.”
The girl said, “I did not say that. I told you when we will meet.”
The man said, “No, I am not on my seat.”
The girl said, “If you can read, I will make a note.” And she did.
Here is that note: “I will see you soon.”
The old man said, “I can not see well. You will have to talk to me.”
The girls said, “But he can not hear me when I talk as loud as I can.” Then she shouted to the old man, “I am going in a car.”
The old man said, “No, I will not go far.”
“Not far,” the girl shouted. “Car, car.” Then the girl took the hand of the old man and went outside. She went to the car and said, “Look. Car. I will go in our car. I will not walk.”
The old man said, “If you will not talk, how can I hear you?”
“Not talk,” the girls said. “Walk, walk, walk.”
“Oh,” the old mean said. “You are playing like you are a duck. And you are talking duck talk.”
This Is Not The End
Anna snickered all the way through this story and can’t wait to read the second half today. :) Her new German class started last week and she loves her new teacher. There are only five kids in the class so she is getting a lot of personal attention. I love that the new class is being held in Sammamish! Woo hoo! Anna has a piano lesson every week too, but we’re taking it very slowly. She gets really bored and fidgety after about 5 minutes. So we’re taking it slow! :)
Both girls are loving choir this year and they are in the same group together. Their first performance is Sunday the 25th! :)
That’s all for now! Hope everyone is doing well!
